The Deceptive Sidekick
There are many characteristics that Morris describes George Costanza. She lists that he is a cheat, fraud, liar, and pathetic sidekick...all of which are displayed in almost every episode. For example, in The Bubble Boy, when George was riding with Susan, he was being completely inconsiderate of Jerry and Elaine following him because he was simply wanting to "make good time". He always just stood there watching the bubble boy deflate and only cared about the Trivia game. At the end of the episode, as the cabin is going down in flames all he can think about is Susan paying him back change from the tolls on their way there. He is usually careless and only has himself in his best interest. In The Engagement, I feel that this is George displayed at his worst. Because of his cheap habits, he chooses the worst envelopes for his wedding engagement with his fiance who as a result ends up dying because of it. He acts unphased, and after the horrible news asks the other three to go get coffee with him in a complete upbeat manner. As Morris stated, "George's sole aspiration is to blend seamlessly into this deceptive and shallow world", and couldn't describe him better. I honestly cannot think of a character from this present time that resembles George's ways exactly, probably because I do not watch much tv in the first place. His actions and behavior are truly one of a kind, and not to say that as a good thing.
